Added additional anti-spam protection to the site

Over the past few weeks we had automated spam-bots posting on the website. The spam-bots were able to create accounts using fake google e-mail addresses.

I have added an additional service (besides using re-captcha) to the website to help minimize this spam. This service should be invisible to regular users of the site.

Please send me a private message if you find issues in the service.

Changes to CCIE.net

I have made a few changes to our humble CCIE community website. The biggest change of course is the redesign of the color and style. Please send me feedback on the new style.

RSS Feeds available on CCIE.net

I want to point out something that may not be obvious. There are RSS feeds for almost all groups and blogs on this site. Simply take the URL and add /feed to the end. For example, in the R&S group:

http://www.ccie.net/groups/ccie-rs/

If you want to subscribe to the RSS feed, simply use the URL:

http://www.ccie.net/groups/ccie-rs/feed

User's Informational Page - What information should we collect?

One of my first orders of business is to update what user information is collected and displayed in the user profile. Of course all information will be optional. Some categories I came up with are

  • Full Name
  • Personal Website
  • Instant Messaging Accounts
  • E-mail (for public display)
  • Address (at least City, State, Country)
  • Certifications Obtained
  • Certifications currently studying
  • Company
  • What about another section for "Resume/Work experience", ala LinkedIn? Opininons. ideas?
