Pass RS exam at 3rd attempt.

It was Monday last week. Good news from cisco site was there.
My last two attempt was so bad. But, this time was different even though I got new lab version.
I met my study group every weekends and study & lab hard using IPexpert wb. It lasts several months. We researched every topic on cisco DOC. What I realized this time is "DOC CD is your great tutor". We also study using ccielabguide workbook for preparing real ccie questions. It is nice workbook to see before your lab exam.
I'm thinking to prepare another track from ccna level,,, after long vacation :)

Everyone knows the CCIE Lab is one of the most difficult exams. And it doesn't exactly help that the study methods used aren't the most efficient. Unfortunately, there is a lot of wasting time when it comes to studying for labs.
To add or not to add (EMAIL MAPI TRAFFIC) under business class in QoS?

•	If I have a total link capacity= 1 Mb
•	Business Class bandwidth (25 %) = 250 kbps & maximum used = 50 kbps / month
•	Monthly overall average utilization = 40 kbps IN & 100 kbps OUT
•	Monthly peak average utilization= 230 kbps
•	EMAIL traffic /month = 85 % >>>>>Bulk traffic

1.	What are the chances to add EMAIL traffic to business class?
2.	What impact it will have on the original business traffic in business class (Citrix,…)?
In case it is not practical, how much shall we increase the business class BW to have the traffic going through with no impact? ... read more »

The Journey Begins

Hello Folk,
I am a network engineer based in Qatar. Today i finally set up a thought within myself of becoming a CCIE.I must say that as at now, I dont know where and what to start with. I had my CCNP in March 2010 and had a temporary reading of Cisco Press CCIE written version 4 material.
Please i need help on the approach to deploy {as at now, i can set aside like 3 hours study/day}. Also, i need someone to guide me on which video tutorial to go for VOD or Netmasterclass?
i will be glad to have ur comments.

Large-Scale Network Discovery

Network discovery is unsolved challenges for large network. Accuracy is number one issue: for a network of 5000 devices, 95% accuracy means 250 devices are not counted; second issue is speed: it was told that some “enterprise discovery solution” took a few weeks to finish discovering one large network.

NetBrain discovery engine is designed for very large network. The two key differentiators are 1)High accuracy -made possible by model-driven discovery engine and 2) High speed -enabled by a complex neighbor-walking mechanism ... read more »

Map-Driven Performance Troubleshooting

“Application is slow, is it network?” Slowness in any application will bring network into spotlight first. However network performance troubleshooting is very complex – often requires days of efforts by an experienced engineer. This is because: 1) performance problem is hard to visualize with current tools 2) lack of history data

The usually used network troubleshooting tools for NOC includes: 1)Monitoring tools e.g. Openview 2)Performance management tools e.g. Vitalnet 3)Configuration management tools e.g. Opsware 4) Accounting tools such as Netscout NetFlow. ... read more »

Network consultants assess customers’ network for new application readiness or security vulnerabilities many times a year. Besides some scripting tools or a few one-feature software, they largely rely on customers to feed them domain knowledge via network diagrams and configuration files. They spent over 50% time collecting data and writing documents.

As most of the network professionals know, there’re many“network inventory assessment tools” such as those from 1)Cisco CNC(free) 2)Dorado Redcell 3)NetCodia NetMRI 4)Netformx Enterprise Discovery 5)Pari 6)GFI tool. ... read more »

Document the Network Automatically

For network large or small, manually created Visio diagrams are the primary method to document network and communicate about a change or a problem. Static diagram is not only time-consuming to create, but also very prone to human errors and often lack of update when network changes. 80% network diagrams are reported to have errors.

The next-generation enterprise solution for network mapping automation can:

1) Build self-updating map – so it is always accurate
2) Create customized map for any task on-the-fly
3) Assessment your network automatically ... read more »

how to start CCIE R&S LAB preparation

There are many workbook vendors: IP Expert you mentioned, Internetwork Expert,
Netmaster Class, etc. Download the free previews they offer, compare and choose the
one(s) you like the most.
As for hardware, you can either buy your rack, rent it online, or use Dynamips and some
switches. If you buy, be aware you don't need the latest and greatest: you can very
effectively prepare using 2600 and 2600XMs, instead of 3700 or 3800 series routers. ... read more »

does RIP v2 really support VLSM

Hi all,

Last week I stuck on a problem in RIP v2. My scenario was very simple. I have two router connected back to back R1-R2, the ip addressing is like below:

R1 s0/0 12.12.12.1/7 lo0 111.111.111.111/8

R2 s0/0 12.12.12.2/7 lo0 112.112.112.112/8

I could not get the rip route for loopback!!!.

When i change the encapsulation from HDLC to PPP wow!!! Strange I got the RIP route.

I could not understand this behavior of RIP?

Regards,

CEF

What is the difference between HP Opsware and NetBrain Configure Management Solution?

Both HP Opsware and NetBrain have strong features at configure management. Howerver, the two tools are different, let us take a quick view here.

Firstly, we know that Opsware is a configuration management solution from HP. The key components of Opsware include NAS for network and SAS for server. ... read more »

Network Assessment Automation

The work of network automation needs to be automated and one of the most important reasons is that most organizations can't afford to have project failures or network outages as a result of inadequate knowledge about network configuration or performance.

Asssume you are a consultant, you will meet the basic requirements as following:
end-to-end automation, all collected data is in a single repository, not in different applications, full port-to-port connectivity and routing information, data must be accurate and complete, etc. ... read more »

Network Vulnerability Assessment

We all know that vulnerability assessment is one important part of network assessment. In this article, we will discuss network vulnerability assessment and introduce an automated network assessment tool which will improve your productivity significantly for you.

A network vulnerability assessment provides a number of important data points about your network infrastructure and its ability to withstand or prevent external attacks and protect sensitive data.

Some of the elements that a vulnerability assessment will cover include:
• Discovery of L2/L3 topology and routing ... read more »
